The Rose To Life

Ostomates with Dementia, Alzheimer's or Mentally Challanged

These suggestions make a tough situation easier for caretakers.

1.  Make sure appliance is the proper type and fit.  It will prevent skin problems, leaving ostomate in a calmer mood.

2.  Opaque pouches diverts attention from feces.

3.  Place Lock-Ring Appliances upside down.  One-piece pants-vest undergarments

4.  3M's Tegaderm Tape or Smith / Nephew's Opposite around edge of pouch (10cm x 12cm cut in 1/2) prevents pouch pull-offs.  Fingers can't get underneath.

5.  Overalls for outer wear
